Lee College Basketball struggles in season opener.

LEWISVILLE – The Lee College Rebels opened their new season with a tough 100-71 loss to the number 7 ranked Odessa College Wranglers at Lewisville’s ninth grade campus on Friday night. The Wranglers boasted a balanced offensive attack with five double figure scorers led by JJ Simpson with 22. Odessa grabbed a 19-11 lead on a three point play by Keandre Cook and extended the margin to 11 thanks to a Josh Boyd three with 12:59 left in the first half. The Wranglers took control with a 14-0 run to take a 37-15 lead at the 10 minute mark, but the Rebels responded with a 5-0 spurt of their own to cut the margin 37-20 with 7:55 remaining in the half. Coming out of the locker room down by 22, Lee made a mini run sparked by a Collin Means 3-pointer to pull within 58-41. OC answered with a 11-2 run and a L.J. Figueroa three pushed the lead to 69-43 at the 15:29 mark. Lee committed an intention foul on Figueroa and he drained a pair of free throws for a 28 point Wrangler lead with under 13 minutes left. Odessa dominated the remainder of the contest with the largest lead coming at 96-60 thanks to 2 Simpson free throws with 4:56 left. In addition to Simpson, OC got double figure scoring from Figueroa with 19, Cook with 15, Boyd adding 13 and Jermaine Haley with 12. J’Von McCormick led the Rebels with 19 and Shawn Montague scored 10. Lee College will attempt to even their record as they take on Western Texas College on Saturday night. That game with be played at the main gymnasium at Lewisville High School.
